Lei Away is a one-of-a-kind, immersive weekend experience that celebrates the tropical splendor within the Midwest and beyond.

We strive to create a community where everyone can enjoy the beauty of the tropics while celebrating the culture and true spirit of the islands. Sip on crafted cocktails while taking in themed music, live art exhibitions, vendors, and delicious foods…all designed to whisk you away to your unforgettable mini-vacation!

Our Lei Away mugs are Live

Designed by our own, Johnny Dawbarn, this 12oz custom mug was produced locally with the help of several artisans.

There is a limited number of each of the two current colorways - the blush and aqua. We plan to release new color ways later on. There is a one per color, per person limit. Use this link to order mugs:

Maui Humane Society has a significant need of income to help provide care to animals arriving at their shelters daily. Currently there are 1,300 pets unaccounted for and out of the pets that have been rescued, only 30% have been reunited with their families.

Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center helps place people in need in safe, secure housing and provides resources to single and low income families all over Maui.

Kokua Restaurant and Hospitality Fund serves those in the service industry, small restaurants, cafes, and bars. They have also set up an agricultural fund for local farmers who either lost their farms to the fires or lost significant income due to fires.

The Lei Away Mission and the Spirit of Ohana

From the event’s inception, the Lei Away team has had a focus on supporting and representing the Polynesian community, here in the Kansas City area and beyond. We have local Polynesian makers, musicians, dancers, videographers, and food vendors participating in the event.

HITIDES and Collective EX, led by owner and Lei Away Creative Director, Johnny Dawbarn, is proudly committed to partnering with companies in Hawaii to provide ingredients and floral products for their business.

A portion of the proceeds from Lei Away will be going toward a scholarship for the local Polynesian community in Kansas City, connected to the organization doing the dance performance on Saturday evening, Kona Winds. We will also be raising funds to support the recent tragedy in Maui. We will confirm details and make more announcements about these endeavors soon.

We hope you’ll join us at Lei Away, in the spirit of Ohana…the spirit of family…and a celebration of the beauty and splendor of tropical locales, right here in land-locked Kansas City.
